Launched in 2009, Urban Fiber Studio combines owner, Leslie’s passion for the needlearts, knitting, fashion and design along with her 15 years in the world of international business and consumer marketing, public relations, new media and technical editing in helping knitwear designers, retailers, needlearts organizations and manufacturers tell their story and drive business.
Working and teaching part-time in her local yarn shops (LYS’s) in San Francisco and Portland has proven that a lifelong passion for marketing, knitting and teaching can be simultaneously integrated. Additionally, a love of cables, texture and better design principles has led her on a never-ending quest for knowledge of the craft and industry. She is currently working with several knitwear designers and organizations in the needlearts industry doing marketing, public relations and editing. She is taking course work to complete the Nihon Vogue Certification Level 1 and has attended The Academy of Arts Knitwear Design program.
Sadly, Leslie did not learn to knit from her mother or grandmother at the tender age of 5 or 6. She caught the knitting bug on an extended business trip overseas in 1998. It was Rowan Magazine Number 18 that did it. An adventurer at heart, she bought the magazine, some yarn, a How To book and taught herself to cast on, knit and purl. The journey continues.
